Penguins

DreamWorks Animation’s Penguins of Madagascar is a hilariously funny comedy featuring those four adorable, lovable penguins we grew to love in DreamWorks 2005 feature – Madagascar.  Filled with slapstick humor and witty one-liners, this movie is sure to have you rolling with laughter.  Follow Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private as they join forces with the North Wind, an elite undercover inter-species task force, to save the world from the diabolical scientist, Dr. Octavious Brine.

The movie follows the story of the penguins from their childhood, from the day they decided to be different and break away from the monotony of everyday life.  Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico, tired of toting the company line, decide to break free.  They meet and save Private from being lunch for seals and vow to survive as a family out in the world.

The underlying story of this film is of a penguin trying to fit in.  Private has spent his entire life a part of a family, but not truly understanding his role.  Like many of us, he spends his life looking for accomplishment, acceptance and an opportunity to make his contribution to the team.  He longs for more than just being Private, the proverbial mascot.

In addition to Private’s story, we see the group meet their match – the over-priced, gadget-owning, secret agent group, North Wind.  Skipper finds himself vulnerable and out matched by the advanced spy organization and eventually doubts his own squad-leading merits.  However, to save the day, the two teams will have to join forces, set aside differences and work together.

The movie is a story of discovery, humility, and acceptance, as well as a lesson in teamwork.

If you can survive the plethora of force-fed, over-the-top jokes early on, the movie really is a gem to enjoy.  Penguins of Madagascar delivers a fun-filled hour of laughter the whole family is sure to love.
