Rolling through the PAX floor, I see the Mojang booth. I expected to see a bit of Scrolls, their mysterious upcoming game, but instead find Cobalt. Cobalt is being published by Mojang and developed by OXEYE Studios. It’s a 2D action game described by their website asa game of “game of running, jumping, rolling, shooting, throwing, dancing, hacking, rolling, flying, sliding, climbing, looting, deflecting, racing, pinata-ing, passing, scoring… and even more rolling.”
In actuality it’s a fun little co-op and versus game with a fair amount of depth to it. It has all the inevitable game modes, like deathmatch and capture the flag. You can pick up melee weapons, various guns, and throwing weapons and try to destroy your friends or the computer (which is a formidable adversary). It will be launched for PC, but could be coming to Xbox 360 at some point in the future. Either way, it will launch with online co-op and versus.
It’s set to release later this year, so be on the lookout.
