Recently the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei published a story detailing that Nintendo was looking into entering the smartphone/tablet market via making apps that would show videos and trailers for Nintendo products but also having mini-games branded with Nintendo characters, of which they are fierce at protecting.

Turns out, Nintendo put that rumor to bed with a firm NO, or about as close as you can get to that via a press release:

We can confirm that there are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Nikkei is dead wrong as they got it right before when they rumored that Nintendo was working on a larger version of the 3DS gaming system. Nintendo too denied that only to release the 3DS XL one month later. It means really that you can’t put anything past Nintendo and a move like this seems logical because it would increase the marketshare for Nintendo products which are not selling quite as well as they hoped.
