Nintendo 3DS is Secretly a Fog Machine
…but not in the way you think.
D3 Publisher, when discussing the details of a forest level in their upcoming music shooter Dream Trigger 3D, revealed a cool little feature built into the 3DS itself: a chip that is capable of generating volumetric fog. Instead of having to spends hours, perhaps days, figuring out the complex mathematical functions required to create convincing fog that doesn’t bog down the game, the developer can simply use what is built in. This feature would be a godsend for a portable Silent Hill game (hint hint)
We’ll see for sure how well this volumetric fog works when Dream Trigger 3D releases in May.
