It took a 14 year old girl to change the face of the NHL video games forever.
Buffalo native Lexi Peters sent a letter to EA Sports after much frustration scrolling through an ever growing customizable list of sweaty man features to make the closest facsimile of herself, asking if they could put an option for female characters in the game. Instead of laughing on top of a giant pile of money as they lit the letter on fire, EA Sports did something about it.
After getting permission from both the NHL and EA legal departments, the company not only got female customization into the game, but they also modeled the default character after Lexi herself! Card carrying members of the “He-Man Woman Haters Club” can breathe a sigh of relief, however, as they will not be forced to diversify their teams when the game releases tomorrow.
