Fans of the gentle samurai revolutionary can now commence the excitement…because there’s a new Ruroni Kenshin series being made in Japan as I type this. But…that’s not all.

According to ANN, the latest issue of Shueisha’s Jump Square has announced that a brand spanking new series starring our favorite characters will is in production. The magazine also noted that blu-ray versions of the movie Samurai X: The Motion Picture and the two OVA (original video animation) classics Reflection and Trust and Betrayal are in the works too.

The original series created by Watsuki Nobuhiro (Gun Blaze West, Buso Renkin) in manga format started in 1994 and ran through 1999. I personally know 3 or 4 friends that this series made lifetime fans of Japanese animation. The big reason for getting the series a green light to be made, besides fan demand, is that the series celebrates it’s 15th anniversary this year.

I’m really excited to see more of this series. I was quite the anime snob about this series when it was first shown on TV here on Cartoon Network, but after sitting down and watching the entire series beginning to end, I too was made a lifelong fan. This series can’t come quick enough. Studio Deen, the guys behind the Read or Die OVA, and Ranma 1/2 are handling the production…so we’re sure to see a quality product.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
