Netflix to Change Pricing Structure

In a move that I am sure will relieve some, and infuriate others; Netflix has decided to raise their prices, effective January 2nd.

The new prices will add essentially a dollar to the pricing tiers. The average tier was $13.99 per month, which included 2 DVDs at a time, will now be $14.99. A similar change will also be happening across the board.

The new feature is that Netflix will be offering a new baseline service, which include ZERO DVD’s, and only provides streaming. The new service will start at $7.99 per month. For $2.00 additional, you can have 1 DVD per month, for a total of $9.99.

Personally, I love Netflix. I definately get my use out of it. However, especially considering the current economy, Netflix shouldn’t be moving ahead with a new price increase. Instead, they should provide the Streaming Only, and let current subscribers continue with the plans that they signed up for.

Will I stop using Netflix because of this price change? Probably not. But if the price continues to increase, I will likely reconsider and switch to the streaming only method.
