Tokyo Ghoul Volume 1This week sees new manga releases from Kodansha Comics, Seven Seas Entertainment, and VIZ Media.

Starting with this week’s new releases, I will be featuring a “Pick of the Week.” My choice for this week is the first volume of the Tokyo Ghoul manga series.

Tokyo Ghoul Volume 1 by Sui Ishida
VIZ Media – MSRP: $12.99 Get it for $9.32!

Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way – except their craving for human flesh. Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body – eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.

The other new releases coming out this week are:

Dogs: Bullets & Carnage Volume 10 by Shirow Miwa
VIZ Media – MSRP: $12.99

Heine and Badou make their way into the innermost depths of Prof. Angelika Einsturzen’s underground sanctum. There, in the labs where Heine was born and then violently separated from his siblings, they learn more not only about Heine’s past but also about Badou’s connection to the professor. Meanwhile, Naoto is confronted by clones of Einsturzen and Fruhling, and in the ensuing fight the truth about her origins is revealed.

Fragments of Horror by Junji Ito
VIZ Media – MSRP: $17.99

An old wooden mansion that turns on its inhabitants. A dissection class with a most unusual subject. A funeral where the dead are definitely not laid to rest. Ranging from the terrifying to the comedic, from the erotic to the loathsome, these stories showcase Junji Ito’s return to the world of horror.

Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends Volume 11 by Yomi Hirasaka
Seven Seas Entertainment – MSRP: $12.99

The Saint Chronica school festival is coming fast, and the Neighbors Club still hasn’t figured out how to present themselves to the world. They’re running out of time and ideas, but a solution may have presented itself, if only they can agree to disagree. In order to make their idea a reality, the Neighbors Club will have to trust Yozora’s talent as a writer – and her track record on that front is questionable. And while Yozora and Sena are known to squabble, their relationship is now more strained than ever.

Taichi Hiraga Keaton, the son of an eminent Japanese zoologist and a wealthy English noblewoman, is an insurance investigator educated in archaeology and a former member of the SAS.
