It’s been just over 4 years since we last Rockstar’s (Team Bondi) L.A. Noire in motion but today they’ve released a trailer which gives anyone out of the loop a basic summary of what the game is about. As you might have guessed by the game’s title, it tries to follow the style of Film Noir from the 1940s and 50s, only with less dark shadows and set in Los Angeles. It’s a mystery thriller where you play as a detective who is taking on an investigation into a series of murders that will, as the trailer says, either make or break him. On the Rockstar side, like any of their recent titles it’s set in a fully open sandbox and we can assume it will keep the same mission structure seen most recently in GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. I have high hopes for L.A. Noire though because I’d rather see Rockstar make more than just GTA games. RDR this year felt familiar in the way it controlled as well as the sandbox elements but fresh at the same time, free from the constraints of what is and isn’t needed in a GTA game. I hope the same applies here, especially since you’re playing a good guy for once. But then, good and evil never seems to be a concrete definition in a Rockstar game. I guess we’ll have to see when the game releases next March.
