New Comics Wednesday: Predators #3

The worst part of this comic?  Having to look at Adrien Brody’s face every other panel in the second story of Dark Horse Comics’ Predators #3.

Yes, it is a blatant tie-in for the upcoming movie (July 9th, if you haven’t already penned it in on your calendar), but as Dark Horse has been doing Predator comics (and Predator vs. Alien comics and Predator vs. Batman comics and…) they must have learned a few tricks on how to make a good movie tie-in.

The best trick, at least as far as I’m concerned, is getting David Lapham (Stray Bullets, Sparta) to write the back story for the Adrien Brody character.   Okay, admittedly, there are no predators in this story (as the character doesn’t meet the predators until the movie), but what do I care?  This is David Lapham.  Here, Mr. Lapham is at his best, writing about a morally ambiguous character with guns.

I won’t say anything about the other story, except this:  I didn’t know Lawrence Fishburne was in the movie until I saw this cover.  The story is good (and a little strange–I won’t tell you about it as it sets up something important in the movie), but you cannot tell it is Mr. Fishburne’s character from the art.

The next, and last, issue is due out next week.

Bottom Line:  $2.99/$2.99
