Alan Moore put a new book out! There, now that we have that out of the way, we can move on. Neonomicon is Moore’s new highly anticipated title. It is a sequel to Moore’s previous miniseries “The Court Yard.” (If you haven’t read The Court Yard, go do it).
The story follows a team of FBI agents who are investigating a string of grisly crimes that appear to be the copycat of a former FBI agent who went off the deep end. The team is picking up the pieces from where he left off, and creepiness follows.
The story itself is rumored to be a retelling of one of Lovecraft’s stories centering on the Cthulhu mythos. I think Alan Moore is an incredibly talented writer, and I can’t wait to see what he does with the story. That being said my highest praise is also my biggest complaint about this book: It is all exposition. I can’t wait to see where this is going, but also nothing really happens–all of the action/big puzzle pieces happen before the book starts or “off camera.”
If you are looking for something new and different, this could be the place to start, and with the first issue just out last week, it is also the perfect time to start.
