While we’re on the subject of live-action martial arts movies, I think it’s only fair that we warn you that a third installment of the Mortal Kombat movie series is set to begin shooting this September.

The information was leaked by none other than Scorpion’s real-life counterpart Chris Casamassa in an interview with the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. The eight-degree black belt and CEO of the Red Dragon Karate got his start in The Karate Kid as an extra and continued his work in movies as Scorpion in Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

I don’t know how many other people out there enjoyed the first movie as much as I did, I was about 20 times better than the Jean Claude Street Fighter, though the sequel (Annihilation) was just awful. I’ll wait to cast my judgment on the third movie, but if the movie trilogy curse has taught us anything, they’d probably be better off NOT making this movie, although I’m sure Warner Bros. is looking to make as quick of a buck on their new franchise as they can.
