More Oddworld news: Munch’s Oddysee getting HD remake, Stranger’s Wrath HD delayed
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD will not be released until the Summer now. It was meant to have launched this week, but JAW announced at last night’s GameCityNights event that it will be delayed so that more features can be worked on and also because of the late release of the PC version. JAW have also decided to start work on a HD remake of Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee, the third game in the series that originally released exclusively on Xbox in 2001. That will be released in October, a month which will also see the Oddboxx compilation of all four games released on PS3.
The big stumbling block so far has been Microsoft’s reluctance to release either of the games, due to XBLA’s 2GB file size limit. JAW is still in talks with Microsoft to get the games released on Xbox 360, but according to JAW boss Stewart Gilray, a little bit of progress has been made since Lorne Lanning, father of Oddworld, started putting the squeeze on Microsoft. Another problem is that JAW want to self publish, but unless you’ve released 3 disc games on Xbox 360, you can’t do that. The only other way is to go through Microsoft Games Studios, and the whole ordeal seems pretty retarded if you ask me.
Regarding the rumoured Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD remake that Lorne Lanning spoke about earlier in the year, JAW haven’t actually decided what to do yet. They may remake either of the 2D titles or make a new Abe focused game all together. Either way, the game will be 2.5D and be developed for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game to develop will be decided on in the Summer and production will begin in August. A new game would be two years away and a remake would be developed for Christmas 2012.
