From Anchorman to Ant-Man..

Yesterday rumors started to fly that Paul Rudd had entered into negotiations with Marvel to play Hank Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man. Well I guess the rumors were true, today Marvel officially released a statement confirming the hire:

The casting of Rudd represents the actor that Marvel and Wright had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man, continuing the studio’s desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes.  The film’s plot is being kept under wraps.
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

I think this is another slam dunk casting for Marvel. Rudd’s ability to be both serious and sarcasticly funny should fit right into what Edgar Wright brings with his style of directing, and what we have already come to expect from Marvel’s lineup of genius superhero leading men. Personally I cant wait for the inevitable Stark/Banner/Pym wise-crack throw-down over who the smartest man in Avengers 3 will be. But what do you think? Has Marvel done it again, or is Rudd the wrong guy to play the Avenger’s smallest(and sometimes largest) hero?

Ant-Man crawls into theaters July 31st, 2015
