James Wan is at it again with the second installation of Insidious, Insidious Chapter 2 and I couldn’t be happier!

Insidious Chapter 2

Directed by: James Wan
Written by: Leigh Whannell and James Wan

In Insidious Chapter 2 we start where we left off: with the remains of a once happy family piecing their lives back together while trying to provide answers as to what has transpired.

In the first chapter, we were introduced to a husband and wife whose family’s world became infested with spirits from The Further after one of their sons became lost there while in a dream like state. Their lives were placed in limbo as they fought to bring their son back alive, and not allow anything evil to take his place. But we all know how that ended, don’t we?

The full cast of characters (including Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Barbara Hershey) return and are forced into the aftermath of losing Elise (played by Lin Shaye) to defend their place in the world of the living. As Wan transports us back in time we truly begin to discover the depth in which this malevolence has taken hold and how you can’t always judge a book by its cover.

Laced intricately with galvanizing screams and terror awaiting you in the darkest of corners, Insidious Chapter 2 had me nervous from the get go. Wan allowed me almost enough time to cool down with some well toned comedy before diving head first back into his nightmare. One thing I do admire is his ability to turn everyday objects into frighteningly haunting moments for an audience. I can honestly say that I have never been so uncomfortable around a rocking horse or a baby monitor in my life as I am after watching this movie. At the end of the day, I’d tell you to watch this movie. I’d even tell you to go see it in theaters. Just remember to leave a trail of bread crumbs to find your way home.

Overall Rating: 9 out of 10

IN THE NEWS: James Wan Quitting Horror after ‘Insidious: Chapter 2’. So it isn’t to say that he is out of the game all together but Chapter 2 may be his last chapter in the book of horror which certainly leaves The Conjuring 2 and Insidious: Chapter 3 up for grabs. I guess we’ll all have to stay tuned on this one!
