In Theaters – “Moneyball”, “Abduction”, “Machine Gun Preacher”, and “Killer Elite”
A lot of “man movies” out this week as well as one of the most anticipated sports films in the past year.
Director: Bennett Miller
Stars: Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill (Full Cast)
Studio: Columbia Pictures
The Plot: Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (Pitt) works to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.
I can’t say much about this film until my review drops on Friday. Of the films coming out this week, this might be the one of the highest quality and the one that your wife or girlfriend won’t roll her eyes at when you roll up to the cinemas this weekend.
Director: John Singleton
Stars: Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Alfred Molina (Full Cast)
The Plot: When Nathan (Launter), who has always felt distanced from his parents, discovers that he was kidnapped as a child, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy and must go on the run in order to survive.
Taylor Lautner begins his ascension to action star of the moment. I have to say, I would much rather see Taylor beat up bad guys than Shia LeBeowulf. The trailer probably makes the story more interesting than it actually is, but it doesn’t seem terrible.
Director: Marc Forster
Stars: Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Shannon (Full Cast)
Studio: Relativity Media
The Plot: After finding God, Sam Childers (Gerard Butler) leaves his outlaw life behind and crusades for hundreds of Sudanese children who’ve been forced to become soldiers.
And the title of this movie had me without ever having to see the preview. Then I realized that Gerrard Butler would be the preacher, I’m in. It will be interesting to compare how often Butler is without his shirt on compared to Taylor Lautner in his film. Also, this film may or may not come out this week, I have a strong feeling that it doesn’t come out until the 7th of October.
Director: Gary McKendry
Stars: Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro (Full Cast)
Studio: Open Road Films (II)
The Plot: A retired member of Britain’s Elite Special Air Service (Jason Statham) is forced into action when his mentor (Robert De Niro) is taken captive. His mission: kill three assassins dispatched by their cunning leader (Clive Owen).
This just seems like the perinial “Statham Action Hour” film this year. This time dragging De Niro and Clive Owen along for the ride. I had to double check to make sure there wasn’t another Transporter film coming out next week (there isn’t). This seems like a typical guy action movie. You know what you are in for with Statham at this point.
I have a good feeling that this week I would rather see “Abduction” or “Moneyball” those seem like the best films based on the trailers to go to this week.
