Hollywood Out of Ideas: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego
That’s right. That awesome Brøderbund Software game series from the 80’s and 90’s is getting a big-screen adaptation. And because you asked for it, Jennifer Lopez is going to be taking the lead. Wait. I asked for this?
Who doesn’t remember playing “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” growing up? Well, let me re-phrase that. Who, who is near to my 32-year-age, doesn’t remember. Obviously you little pip-squeaks out there probably have only the most vague of idea’s what I am talking about. And to you, the phrase ‘Oregon Trail’ or Q-bert mean nothing.
But to us, us old and in-firmed, Carmen Sandiego was a great little piece of educational software. Much more enjoyable than some of the other tripe of the age.
Well, just because Hollywood is out of ideas, a big-screen adaptation of the game-series is being produced. And who get’s to be the lead character? I would have hoped Sofía Vergara; but no. In stead we get Jennifer Lopez. And I am absolutely sure that there will be a singing/dancing number to appeal to the ‘girls’.
Oh Hollywood, how I wish that you would wake up. Just because you can do a thing, doesn’t mean you SHOULD do a thing. If you are going to do SOMETHING, try to do it right. Don’t just do it because you can, or else we end up with The Mask 2.
