Hellboy: The Storm #1

Has it really been more than half a year since the last issue of Hellboy: The Wild Hunt?  With the great BRPD comics going at the same time, sometimes I do not notice I don’t have a new Hellboy comic around.

However, once I got Hellboy: The Storm #1 in my hands, I was a very, very happy camper.

Fortunately for my Alzheimer-ridden brain, a fair amount of this story is told in flash backs:  A lot has happened to Hellboy since he quit BPRD.  I’ll be honest, I do not know where this series is going;  the story path is not as obvious as Darkness Calls or The Wild Hunt.  With the flashbacks, there is not a lot of set up happening for the next two issues.  I am OK with that though as Mike Mignola has a definite plan for his red hero, and you know I am unquestionably along for the ride.

I will admit, I am still not 100% sold on Duncan Fegredo as artist.  I like him as an artist, and I he gets all the monsters right.  However, there is just something about the way he draws Hellboy’s face that bothers me.  The jawline is a little off and the head seems a little smaller, I think.  Am I quibbling?

Nevertheless, I am an unabashed Hellboy fan, and this issue has made me a very happy comic book reader.

And it is still only $2.99!

Bottom Line:  $2.99/$2.99
