Happy Birthday, Nintendo.
Released on October 18, 1985, the device gave us to Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, and several other franchises that still live on in many memories and still make money to this day. The joke that everyone had a different way of getting their games to work by blowing in the cartridges and wiggling the game just right, or going up and down with the game before turning on, etc, everyone has a story.
It gave us the Konami code, which everyone older than 25 probably knows but the younger generations have no idea what we are talking about. It worked, and we know it by heart, and you youngins MISSED OUT. Thinking back now, the Nintendo that is currently at my house, I’ve had for 21 years. I don’t think there is anything else that I’ve held onto for half that long with as much love and care as I’ve given my NES system.
Happy Birthday Nintendo, thanks for making my childhood so memorable.
If you’ve got a NES story to share, please do so in the comments! Lets all sit on the porch in the rocking chairs and talk about the good ‘ol days.
