Halo Wars sells 1 million!! That’s a lot of frat boys….
All of those guys bought this game. Why don’t you?
So I got an email from a PR that works with M$ and the like today in regards to the sales of Halo Wars and I thought I would share with you some of the funnier parts of the email and my opinions as a Halo Wars player.
Microsoft today announced that sales of “Halo Wars” have reached more than one million units worldwide, making the exclusive Xbox 360 title the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console.
Yeah, not hard to do if you look at the previous console RTS attempts. Starcraft 64, Lord of the Rings etc. Nothing to brag about there.
With a revolutionary control scheme designed expressly for the Xbox 360 controller
Yeah, revolutionary my ass. They did nothing new but streamline controls that you saw in previous console RTS’s. Ensemble did do a good job of it, but hardly revolutionary.
…and a riveting story that takes “Halo” fans deeper into the “Halo” universe, “Halo Wars” is breaking new ground for the strategy genre by introducing a new wave of fans to strategy games and reminding existing fans why it’s so fun.
For true RTS fans, the reminder of why RTS’s are fun came from Dawn of War 2 more than Halo Wars. As for riveting story….yeah it’s Halo. Nothing ‘riveting’ here. Move along.
But there were some interesting statistics in the email as well that I’ll share with you after the jump.
- There have been more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches played.
- More than 118 years of time has been spent in multiplayer matches on Xbox LIVE
- On average, more than 200,000 “Halo Wars” fans have taken up arms in battles between the UNSC and Covenant each day
And you guys wonder why we don’t give you every single PR that hits our emails. Only the funny ones, only the funny ones.
