The ABCs of Death is actually a pretty cool idea. It’s an anthology film with 26 different stories, and 26 different directors. Each director was given a letter of the alphabet and had to direct a short about death using that letter as the main theme. Here’s a quick list of the stories and their directors.

    • A is for Apocalypse (directed and written by Nacho Vigalondo) – Good
    • B is for Bigfoot (directed and written by Adrian Garcia Bogliano) – Good
    • C is for Cycle (directed and written by Ernest Diaz Espinoza – Awful
    • D is for Dogfight (directed and written by Marcel Sarmiento) – Good
    • E is for Exterminate (directed and written by Angela Bettis) – Bad (Sorry Angela, I’m still a big fan)
    • F is for Fart (directed and written by Noboru Iguchi) – Beyond weird (are you surprised?)
    • G is for Gravity (directed and written by Andrew Traucki) – Meh

  • H is for Hydro-Electric Diffusion (directed and written by Thomas Malling) Furries meet World War II science fiction. Very much like a live action cartoon.
  • I is for Ingrown (directed and written by Jorge Michel Grau) – Meh
  • J is for Jidai-geki (Samurai Move) (directed and written by Yûdai Yamaguchi) – Good
  • K is for Klutz (directed and written by Anders Morgenthaler) – Better than Meh, cartoon.
  • L is for Libido (Directed and written by Timo Tjahjanto) A masturbation contest where the loser dies, and  the material to which they yank it gets increasingly more disturbing
  • M is for Miscarriage (directed and written by Ti West) – Worst of the lot, just a lazy attempt.
  • N is for Nuptials (directed and written by Banjong Pisanthanakun) – Meh
  • O is for Orgasm (directed and written by Bruno Forzani & Héléne Cattet) -Really good, and trippy!
  • P is for Pressure (directed and written by Simon Rumley) – Meh, but really messed up!
  • Q is for Quack (directed and written by Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett) Two directors go into the desert to shoot a real duck so this movie can have an actual murder. Things don’t go as planned obviously.
  • R is for Removed (directed and written by Srdjan Spasojevic) – A little worse than meh.
  • S is for Speed (directed and written by Jake West) – Good
  • T is for Toilet (directed and written by Lee Hardcastle) – Good, claymation.
  • U is for Unearthed (directed and written by Ben Wheatley) – Ok.
  • V is for Vagitus (The Cry of a Newborn Baby) (directed and written by Kaare Andrews) A little worse than meh.
  • W is for WTF! (directed and written by Jon Schnepp) Maybe tied for worst: unwatchable!
  • X is for XXL (directed and written by Xavier Gens) – Meh
  • Y is for Youngbuck (directed and written by Jason Eisener) – Good, and messed up.
  • Z is for Zetsumetsu (Extinction) (directed and written by Yoshihiro Nishimura) – Beyond weird.

Overall The ABCs Of Death was a little long but with twenty-six different shorts would you expect anything less? This movie is totally worth a viewing. Especially now that it’s out on DVD from Magnet. The DVD has all the normal special features (deleted scenes, featurettes, commentaries, etc.), but nothing too special there. So if you like weird, gory, scary or funny, this movie is sure to have something for you.

Overall Rating 6.5 out of 10
