EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO MY OPINION: CRUSH (2013) REVIEW
You ever been had a crush? One so intense you’d rather kill the person than see them with someone else? No? I’m the only one? Damn! Well this movie explores these feeling in all to familiar way. Much like Swim Fan (2002), and The Crush (1993), Crush (2013) follows a insecure surprisingly hot girl as she acts like a nut trying to attain the attention of some hunky everyday guy. The one cool thing about this film is Leigh Whannell the writer of the original Saw plays a creep in this movie.
We follow hunky soccer player Scott (played by Lucas Till) and his attempts at getting noticed by scouts. One person who notices him is Bess (played by Crystal Reed) a shy girl with a lack of respect for peoples personal space. She’s completely obsessed with him and begins to make increasingly poor decisions to be close to him all while fending off her own creepy stalker Jeffrey (played by Reid Ewing). On the flip side we see Jules Scott’s long time platonic friend is being harassed by her creepy new boss (played by Leigh Whannell). It’s clear her intrest belongs to Scott though. Scott finds all the attention increasingly more disturbing as bad things start to happen. With so man creepy characters in this movie it’s hard to tell who the villain is, and who just needs therapy.
Over all this movie is mediocre. Strong enough to keep my attention (somewhat), but not good enough to watch a second time. It is out on DVD this week, and might be an expectable rental depending on your taste. I’d bet this movie would be highly entertaining for a 17 year old girl, middle aged woman wanting to re-live there teen years. Maybe college girls? My point here is this movie is more targeted towards women.
