Everyone in existence has met with Tony Gilroy about The Bourne Legacy

If you didn’t know, there’s a new Bourne film in the works, but neither Paul Greengrass or Team America character Matt Damon will be involved. The role has been left open for Damon, but director Tony Gilroy needs someone for the main character role. Step in everyone there ever was.

Ok, not everyone (where was my call?) but Variety are reporting that Gilroy has been meeting with a number of actors about playing a new Treadstone agent. Those actors are Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Kellan Lutz. Deadline have gone one further and claim that Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer,  Benjamin Walker have been in talks with Gilroy aswell. Now that’s a lot of actors. Gilroy will cut down the list quickly and some actors won’t be available, especially when the film has a tentative release date of August 2012.

Given that they’re not playing Bourne himself, it’s understandable to see some surprising names on there like Tobey Maguire. Still, I’d be all for Michael Fassbender playing a charming assassin.
