Everybody Loves Pizza
Hi Geeks. Here I am to talk about more food love.
We all love pizza don’t we? Delicious meats, cheeses and veggies melded onto a chewy crust. Hot of the grill.
Hold up. GRILLED pizza?!? You betcha. Without a proper pizza oven a grill is the best way to get that perfect fire baked crust. The best thing about making your own pizza is that you control the toppings, the depth of the crust and the size of your pie.
Here are my directions for a Whole Wheat Greek Chicken, red onion and tomato pizza.
Start out with a basic pizza crust recipe such as this one(or you can buy pre-made dough.) Once the crust is rolled or stretched to your liking put it on a pre-heated grill(one side only). Toppings will be layered on quickly while the crust is cooking.
Next comes sauce. In my case I used a home made alfredo prepared with freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano and garlic.
Top that with slices of mozzarella. On top of the mozzarella layer thinly sliced red onion.
Once the mozzarella starts to melt I put crumbled cooked Greek Chicken Sausage (from Harmon’s if you are lucky enough to live in Utah) and fresh slices of tomato.
Once the tomato is warmed through toss some feta cheese on top. By this time the crust should be thoroughly cooked, if it starts to burn move it away from direct heat. Serve with a cold beer and a salad.
This pizza was amazing. The crust was perfectly cooked, the three different cheeses went together so well with the vegetables and the meat. I even had plenty left over for lunch at work the next day. It was amazingly simple, came together so quickly and wasn’t heavy or greasy like delivery pizzas.
