All we can say is, it’s about time. And the Dude abides of course. The Coen Brothers film got a HD-DVD release in 2007 and a 10th Anniversary DVD in 2008, but until now there hasn’t been a Blu-Ray release for The Big Lebowski. That’s about to change with a new limited edition coming on August 16th.

It will contain a new remaster of the film and will be in its original 1:85:1 aspect ratio. In addition to the ones found on the 10th Anniversary DVD, there will be some new special features and the film will come in a 28 page DigiBook containing quotes and production stills, as well as the interview with the man who was the inspiration for the Dude. On top of all that, there’s a 5.1 soundtrack and a digital copy, so all in all a good deal, depending on the price. Unfortunately that hasn’t been announced yet. You can find the specifics at the link below.
