Dude, China Bans Time Travel on TV
In a statement dated March 31, the State Administration for Radio, Film & Television said that TV dramas that involve characters traveling back in time “lack positive thoughts and meaning.” The guidelines discouraging this type of show said that some “casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation.” I Guess Lost, or Quantum Leap, or….something else. Won’t be getting any air time in China anytime soon.
From what I’ve read, it’s fallen short of an outright ban of such dramas, that apparently seem to have come in response to a series of popular programs about characters going back to ancient times. Which if you’re a sucker for Asian history was just BATSHIT CRAZY. “Palace,” the big TV series over there is about a woman falls in love with a Qing dynasty painting, travels back in time and then falls in love with several princes. Sounds like that dumb movie my mom talks about with Christopher Reeves in it, Hope the woman didn’t have a penny in her pocket. Though, it’s on a station that is in direct competition with the state run media station, so you can kind of see where the strings are coming from.
And people bitch about what they have to put up with in the US.
