Doctor Who, behind the scenes look at Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara

Peter Capaldi and crew have started filming the new season’s episodes for the BBC this week! Just thinking about how much I didn’t care about this show at nearly this time last year and now am giddy and following each news item that comes up makes me laugh.

As we all know (those that cared to click on this post that is) Mr. Capaldi took over from Matt Smith’s run on the series along with companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). We had a slight taste of the new doctor at the end of the recent Xmas special when we bid adieu to the old and welcomed in the new resident alien time traveler.

Steven Moffat joked about how the newest doctor has been slowly teased this season via the news release:

”First the eyebrows! Then at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.”

The new Doctor is no stranger to the world of Doctor Who as he appeared in the Pompeii episode of David Tennant’s tenure and also as John Frobisher on the Torchwood: Children of Earth arc. He’s been in the universe a few times, but never a role as weighty and important as that of THE Doctor.

Capaldi realizes the role is big for him but is taking it in stride:

New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.

I for one, can’t wait for the new series to begin airing but unfortunately that’s coming sometime in the third quarter of this year.
