Reasons why geeks make the best boyfriends . . .
Instead of jerseys, they rock collared button-downs tucked into their khakis or t-shirts with math and video games references plastered on the front. You won’t see them strutting their stuff all over town, but usually tucked away in libraries or the local game store. They are rarely, if ever, possessive. They trust you, so you can be yourself around them. You like to walk around the house in a ratty t-shirt for comfort? He won’t care. He does too! Yes, these geeks, nerds and dorks are quickly becoming coveted for more than their brains, and here are the reasons why:
*Geeks are relatively low maintenance. Most can be fueled on pizza, twinkies and Mt. Dew. No complicated dinners needed here. Which is great news, because I’m not the greatest of cooks, but I do know how to order a pizza!
*They are handy in this technical world. It’s great to have a boyfriend that can fix your laptop, iPod, smartphone and anything else that may need to be plugged into the wall. Also tech-savvy boys will leave you sweet little texts, flirt with you in chat rooms, Skype with you, play online games with you, comment on your blog and leave you cute little Youtube videos on your wall.
*While they may be awkward, they mean well. I’ve never had a geek guy not call me when he said that he would. (Scores major points!)
*They’re more romantic than they’re usually given credit for. Geeks may not be full of romantic confidence; however, once coaxed from their emotional holes, they are eager to please and enjoy their newfound relationship. Also, you are not “just another girlfriend”.
*Geeks are usually well educated. You won’t have to listen to him blather about cars (ok maybe a little). He’ll have lots of interesting things to talk about. Politics, world events, how much the hamburger down at the local restaurant rocks. How can intelligence be a bad thing.
*His friends aren’t jerks. If a cute girl picked one of their clan to date, there is hope it could happen to them too!
*Geeks are not interested in status. Geeks become geeks because they choose to spend their time doing things that would not necessarily make them popular with everyone else in school like sports and fashion. The ability to resist peer pressure is important to a geek. This means that a geek is more interested in their and your own happiness than looking good to others.
*Geeks have passion. They are focused. They can focus their energy on one task with the intensity of a hunting cheetah. Granted, the task they are focusing on may have more to do with whether they have enough mana to battle the other planeswalkers than you, but when they do turn their attention to you, nothing will make you feel more like the most important person in the world.
And the final reason why geeks make the greatest boyfriends:
* They have excellent finger dexterity! Geeks roll dice, play video games, flip pages in books, type a lot and use characters like ~ and ^ and | that no one has any use for. So whether you have a button that needs pushing or a joystick that needs joy, a geek is the right person for the job!
I’ve learned that the key to having a successful relationship with a geek is self-confidence. If you don’t have it you will always feel second best to the hot pixelated babe in Everquest. As long as you are comfortable in your own skin and are true to yourself, they will treat you with an amazing amount of care and respect. In short, geeks are unlike the majority of men a girl will know in her life—in fact, they’re probably much better than most of the guys she will ever know. And if that’s not an advantage. I don’t know what is!
