Sound like a title you’d like? Order Death Vigil #1 (of 8) now!

This series has all kinds of cool! Magic, Elder Gods, Warlocks, and Reapers. I liked it, and would definitely read more of this series. Magic is cool, and seeing someone beat up an Elder God is pretty rad too!

We’re first introduced to Bernie, Hugin, and Sam as they welcome new Reaper, Clara, in to the Death Vigil, which is the name of their order as well as a basic job description. Our characters look a bit like steam-punk infused grim reapers. Now, when you think ‘Grim Reaper’ you probably think of the same thing I do: cloak wearing skeletons with scythes. Which Bernie vehemently denies being, upon meeting Clara. But the similarity is undeniable, big-hooded cloaks, scythes, and skulls. The theme is pretty cool, and I like Sejic’s take on that look, with a common shirt and jeans outfit standing next to your stereotypical reaper cloak.

The art looks poised to jump straight in to animated show or movie. Which, by the way, I’m glad to see a lot of comic books being made into shows and movies. It increases the chances of a fun and exciting title like this getting its own show, because it would be cool to see it happen. The story, as I described above, is a pretty straight forward tale of tireless guardians fighting for the safety of the earth.

So, the hows and whys aren’t so much the focal point, as the who. A team book like this always offers a wide range of characters, and I’m curious to see what kind of cast Sejic has assembled after a few issues. A glimpse of the true villains in this first issue of Death Vigil are brief and mysterious. But, they look like they could be quite vicious and intelligent, and that’s a good combination. Because we all know a good villain can make a book, just ask the Teen Titans. If all these elements sound like a good combo, check this series out! Get your copy here.  I’m sure Death Vigil has plenty more demonic fun in store!
