Kiss DC Universe Online’s current subscription service, like Batman’s parents, goodbye.

Like so many MMOs before it, Sony Online Entertainment today revealed that both the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of DC Universe Online will be entering the freemium realm come October. Current players who wish to keep their subscriptions will receive large perks (and a Legendary membership) compared to free players, such as 16 character slots, 63 inventory slots, and all added content at no additional cost to them. Non-subscription players who spend at least $5 will be bumped up to Premium status, providing them with more inventory, character slots, and a greater range of in-game items. Free players won’t be left out in the cold, however, as most (if not all) of the content can be purchased via the in-game store.

So what say you, readers? Will you don the spandex now that the first taste is free?

[UPDATE: More details have emerged regarding the three new game tier, as officialy provided by the DC Universe Online website]

The game client has also officially been confirmed to be free by the PlayStation Blog, so save your money on buying a retail copy (unless you want that Premium status right away)
