With the success of shows like Arrow and Agents of Shield, the big comic book companies have started to realize that there is a ton of potential to serialized television dramas that either explore the universe that exists in the comic books or at the very least the expanded canon.

Last September, DC announced they were going to be expanding their foothold in the TV market with the announcement of Gotham and an unnamed at this point Hellblazer/Constantine&lt show.

Firstly, Gotham takes place in you-know-where and will follow the lives of the main characters that make up the Batman universe with a focus on the rise of a young officer Gordon working his way up the ranks to commissioner. Fox chairman Kevin Reilly said that the show will for sure be featuring “all of the classic Batman villains”. This of course would mean the rogues gallery of the Joker, Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin.

The show will be “an operatic soap with a larger than life quality” which to me sounds much like Arrow (which has been B-A-N-A-N-A-S this season) and will track the child Bruce Wayne from his youth up until he dons the cape for the first time which Reilly said will be the series finale.

Secondly, John Constantine aka Hellblazer (originally penned by Alan Moore) was DC’s Vertigo imprint’s  most successful and long running series. This too is getting a television treatment that will be written and produced by DC movie veteran David Goyer who you might recall was the writer for all three of Nolan’s Batman movies and even the Man of Steel movie we all enjoyed last year.

The biggest hope for Constantine is that it will appear on NBC which is starving for more content. There aren’t really any plot points or details to share as of yet, nor are there any set in stone actors and actresses planned. There is however speculation that it might just be Keanu reprising his role from the 2005 movie.

The character John Constantine is said to have a part in the nebulous Justice League Dark movie coming up but just like how it’s supposed to be directed by WPR favorite Guillermo del Toro, it’s merely speculation at this point.

Stay tuned as we bring you more, meanwhile leave us your thoughts on who should fill both the roles of Gordon and Constantine!
