Daniel Benmergui Teases Storyteller
Those familiar with the IGF nominee know how exciting this is…those that don’t need to read the rest of this article, like right now.
If you’ve ever heard of the games Today I Die and I Wish I Were the Moon then you already have an appreciation (at least I hope) of Mr. Benmergui’s talents at making great and thought provoking videogames that can also stand on their own as works of poetry and subsequently…art. Yes, I just invoked videogames as art. Let me put down my Pabst Blue Ribbon and explain.
When I picked up Today I Die for my iPhone, I had no idea what i would be getting into, yet after tinkering around with it for a good 30 minutes, I was left with a profound sense of accomplishment. It was a quick game and yet, completely satisfying and one of those rare ‘worth every penny’ type of purchases. Well, he’s going to be taking a step away from the poetry/prose system for the latest game which he is calling Storyteller.
The game is supposedly going to make this a more ‘gamey’ type of experience that will be borrowing heavily from the comics industry and games like Closure. Don’t get too excited yet because he is apparently going to be taking his time with the latest creation by spending the next year developing it for a 2012 release on the PC, Mac, and iPad. You can count me in for the iPad version at least…but I do have to say that I’m pretty excited.
