Crytek UK talking to publishers about possibly releasing a new Timesplitters title
The last time we heard about the troubled development of Timesplitters 4 was when Free Radical were purchased by Crytek to become their UK division. Since then, it’s all been pretty quiet aside from the occasional drops of concept art from the game. However, at the GameCity festival in Nottingham last week managing director Karl Hilton told Eurogamer that they were talking to publishers about whether a Timesplitters game would now be viable. He said ,
“There hasn’t been a TimeSplitters game for quite a while. Obviously TimeSplitters is a FPS with a strong multiplayer element. The question is, is that the way to go with another one, or should it go down a different route, or should we be developing a new IP altogether?”
He then went on to that talks have been positive so far, due to the brand awareness that Timesplitters has in the games industry. He also insisted that if there was a new Timesplitters game then it would retain the same dark British humour than the series is known for. Crytek UK have been busy working on the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, but now that it’s nearly wrapped up, they’re free to work on new projects.
Lets just hope that they can get back on development of Timesplitters 4, or if not, at least a new IP. Don’t forget, they had a pretty good looking Star Wars: Battlefront 3 game in production at some point too. Maybe they should talk to Lucasarts.
