Bored? Go and play The Legend of Princess!

by under PLAY on Feb 3rd
If you love The Legend of Zelda like most of us at MWN, then you should really go and check out The Legend of Princess, it’s like playing Zelda II for the NES but with a arcade twist, it’s very fast paced and addictive and the art direction is just incredible. The author of the game, Konjak, also made the great Noitu Love 2. So what are you waiting for? You can go to his website here, and download it from...

Demo Daze: F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin

by under PLAY on Feb 2nd
There’s something about demonic, ghostly or crazy little girls than seems to scare the shit out of us. The likes of the game industry and the film industry have noticed and have took advantage of this by including these scary demonic girls in their games and films. From The Shining to Silent Hill, we’ve been made to fear a little girl who also happens to be so deadly that they’d put Satan to shame....

A Weird Kid’s Top 10 — All-Nighter NES Games

by under PLAY on Feb 1st
Back in the great days of my youth almost 19 years ago, when the NES was king and I was a portly little quiet kid. A kid who escaped everyday to the Mushroom Kingdom and Dracula’s Castle to avoid my boring existence as a grade school child. I had very few friends and a non-existent home life so video games became a coping mechanism to help my personal development and became my best friend. The NES in today’s...

BigPopa’s Weekend Anthem: Superbowl Edition

by under PLAY on Jan 30th
Am I the only one looking forward to this sunday? I have heard several people I know act like they hate the Superbowl or something. I mean, it is only the most watched event on TV every year. It’s only the most popular sport in America after all (and screw you NASCAR fans). Anyways, I know I have big weekend plans. Tomorrow is my 25th birthday and I have something special planned for all of you so keep your...

The Retro Goggles, They Do Nothing: The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends

by under PLAY on Jan 29th
Licensed games. The 8-bit and 16-bit eras had loads of them, and surprisingly a lot of them were great. Tiny Toons Adventures, Felix the Cat, and Aladdin, just to name a few. But it’s just fate that there also be some pretty bad licensed games, and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends is the worst of the worst. What can I say about Rocky and Bullwinkle? I never played this game as a kid, but I was...

Max’s vinyl trip: Unknown Pleasures – Joy Division

by under PLAY on Jan 28th
My last review was about Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ made by already well established posh people that have had success before, while this album is made by a bunch of Manchester guys that just started a band and accepted any applications. It’s kind of a right place right time thing. Both are from 1979 but of course they are very different.

I Love Japan: Gackt – Mars

by under PLAY on Jan 27th
I’m venturing that a good portion of the people visiting this site (minus me, King, and Styos) don’t know who Kamui Gackt is. Let’s just say that the man is a huuuuuge star over in Japan and the subject of today’s I <3 Japan article, though more accurate to say his masterpiece album Mars.

A Weird Kid’s Top 10 — Games That Deserved Sequels

by under PLAY on Jan 26th
It’s rather unfortunate for us gamers, in that we aren’t as lucky as fans of books, music, or movies just for the fact that the majority of games released will never ever see a sequel. Even if there is fan support and we think that it would be a good idea and that they ‘deserve’ one, it’s more likely than not that it won’t. In planning this top ten, I wanted to establish a few criteria: The...

Bastard Children of Mana

by under PLAY on Jan 24th
I told Ryan Wilson (thef1sh) that I didn’t want to use profanity on this site, in case it ever comes back to haunt me, but I made an exception for this topic. Children of Mana for the DS sucks to high heaven. That’s really all I have to say.

Big Popa’s Weekend Anthem: F*ck the Po-Po

by under PLAY on Jan 23rd
I hope all of you are feeling a little TGIF like I am. I’m telling you, four hours of pool and 7 out of 11 victories combined with 7 delicious beers puts me in the mood for more tonight. So here’s a new weekly feature for all you party animals that need something to help ya get going. The first ever Big Popa Anthem is ‘Fuck the Po Po’ by Corey Smith. I first heard about this guy way back in...

Mass Effect Movie? DO WANT!

by under PLAY, WATCH on Jan 22nd
According to an article that I found on Gamespot in the UK. Avi Arad has optioned the rights to make a movie based on Mass Effect. This is some of the best news I’ve heard in a while because I was one of those wierdos that enjoyed this game completely. Sure, Avi has optioned a whole bunch of other licenses in the past but this one just gives me a stiffy. I really hope that he decides to move forward with this....

Max’s vinyl trip: The Wall – Pink Floyd

by under PLAY on Jan 21st
I was first introduced to Pink Floyd by my grandma. I asked what her favorite groups were, and she simply replied: Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Dire Straights. The first time I heard this answer I thought it was old people’s music. I wasn’t a fan of rock music, since I’m more of a indie fellow that finds himself listening to Arctic Monkeys and Oasis. Strangely enough, I asked my grandma recently if she...

The Awesomness Of Classical Music

by under PLAY on Jan 21st
I’ve come to realize that music pretty much dominates my life as most of the time I can barely function unless there’s some music being played. Most of the time it’s more of the hard bluesey type rock or most of the many sub-genres of metal. Though I hate any of this generic indie pop rock rubbish as it sounds all the same. Which brings me onto another small love, perhaps a guilty pleasure – Classical...

For Your Listening Pleasure: Innerpartysystem – Innerpartysystem

by under PLAY on Jan 13th
While on my way to meet the girlfriend’s parents a few days ago, I spotted a Zavvi store. Knowing they had fucked up royally and needed to get rid of stock, I thought I would help out and with 30% off all CDs, how could I refuse? While there, I found this album and picked it up for a cool £7. This won’t be a typical album review because I believe you can’t truly review an album until you have listened...

Check Out My Setup. Also, I’m A Traitorous Dog

by under PLAY on Jan 11th
I did once say that I’d never own a 360 given I generally disliked Microsoft. That said after playing on the 360s at uni, I did grow to enjoy the console largely due to Dead Rising. I don’t want to know how much I played that game, though it must be close to GTA San Andreas levels. Still I kinda said that if I could get a brand new 360 for £65, I’d buy it straight up. That of course was a risk given...

Obligatory Gaming Brothel: Gibbo

by under PLAY, WATCH on Jan 11th
I meant to get this done by the end of last year but certain events which I won’t go into detail about, prevented me from doing it. So now, a little later than planned, here is a look at my gaming brothel, year 2.

Is World of Warcraft Offensive? A WoW Junkie’s Analysis

by under PLAY on Jan 10th
It’s no secret that I’m a World of Warcraft junkie. I don’t play as much as I used to, but Blizzard has been getting my 15 bucks a month for a very long time. I would like to think I know this game inside and out, and so you can imagine my surprise when I read a report put out by The Timothy Plan, a  conservative christian investment firm, that lists WoW as the 20th most offensive game on the market. The...

If The Likes Of Bioshock And Braid Are Recognised As Games As Art, Then Why Isn’t Oddworld?

by under PLAY on Jan 10th
I love the Oddworld universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. I also like the Bioshock universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. The difference being between these two games is that Bioshock gained critical acclaim and looks set to become a big universe where as the Oddworld...
