Imagine my surprise when I opened up Facebook today and found this video.

Yes, The Smashing Pumpkins are still very much alive and producing kickass albums. Although there was a seven year gap between breakup album Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music and reunion album Zeitgeist their quality of music never skipped a beat. Oceania will mark a short break in their current 44 free song project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, which recently released its ninth track. You can bet your ass that I’ll be checking this one out when it releases around September.

Also revealed was a three year plan to reissue the entire pre-breakup album library, with extra “lost tracks”, on digital, CD, and vinyl formats. The release schedule is as follows:

  • Later this year: Gish, Siamese Dream, and Pisces Iscariot
  • 2012: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Aeroplane Flies High, and Adore
  • 2013: Machina/The Machines of God and Machina II/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music
  • The temptation to finally own Machina II on vinyl is unbearable.
