Avengers Age of Ultron: Is it Worth Your Billions of Dollars?
Written and Directed by: Dark Lord Joss Whedon
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and James Spader
The Avengers are back and still fighting with the evils of the universe. After recoving Loki’s septer from a Hydra research center Tony Stark tries to use its powers to protect the world. Of course this does not work out well, and instead he creates super vilian Ultron. Ultron is an artificial inteligence with the ability to buid a robot army he controls.
Watching the Avengers: Age of Ultron something occurred to me. This movie certainly was good. It was funny, it was exciting, the special effects were stunning, but…that’s par for Marvel these days. I mean sure you have to suspend your disbelief, ignore Tony Stark’s rape joke (not that you would if this was a movie you didn’t like), and sit in a theater for two and half hours.
If you look at the last several releases from Marvel you can note two things. Huge box offices and high praises. They’re becoming the popular kid of the movie industry. You know that kid you looked up to. The one you wanted to be in high school. Problem is…most popular kids peak in high school, and it makes me wonder if this is the peak of Marvel. Are they about to become Mathew McConahey’s character from Dazed and Confused?
Exciting things often burn out quickly. That’s why you didn’t leave your spouse during your midlife crisis affair. Or why no one would know where Leif Garrett was now if it wasn’t for VH1. Marvel is going to have to make some fresh changes to remain on top. If not they run the risk on becoming a parody of themselevs. Pandering to the lowest comest demonator doesn’t age well.
Avengers: Age of Ultron was good. My concerns are not for this movie but for the future of Marvel movies in general. Go see it in theaters (like you weren’t going to already). It’s big dumb fun, and you won’t regret it.
Don’t waste your time waiting for an end of credits stinger. Joss had stated publicly there is none. I didn’t trust him and waited a long time to be disapointed.
