The Lone Ranger [Review]

The Lone Ranger [Review]

If I could describe this film with one word I would be an awesome linguist, but I cannot, and I am not. I can say, honestly, I feel very conflicted about this film. On one hand I really enjoyed it, on the other I felt patronized and like I was the wrong audience.

Raising Geekazona: Chapter 1

Being a geek is a challenge, at least it was.  Growing up through the 80s and 90s as a geek wasn’t the picnic you would imagine.  It’s OK now, things are great for us geeks, and I envy my children.

Quidditch, a serious game, for serious muggles.

Quidditch, a serious game, for serious muggles.

I’m going to take a slight detour from the regular fare here on WPR to talk about sports, Quidditch, to be specific.  It’s been around for awhile now, and it’s picked up some steam, but somehow it is still shrouded in mystery and seems stuck in the same corners as Live Action Role Players.  To […]

Man of Steel – A Trio of Reviews

Man of Steel – A Trio of Reviews

Three WPR staffers went to the advance screening of Man of Steel. It only makes sense they review it together, so here are their thoughts in one big read up. Hands were touched in popcorn buckets, beers shared afterwards, and a high speed police chase involved no causalities #yolo.

Game of Thrones: Mhysa [Review]

Game of Thrones: Mhysa [Review]

This is not the episode we were expecting, but is the episode we deserve…or need…  I’m not sure how that works.  Mhysa was very good; a high note to end the season, but this note is a different key to last week.

Game of Thrones: The Rains of Castamere [Review]

Game of Thrones: The Rains of Castamere was spectacular, exhilarating, and heartbreaking.  I would expect nothing less from the second to last episode of this season.

Game of Thrones: Second Sons

Game of Thrones: Second Sons

Second Sons showed us the true stature of several characters, grooming hero and antihero alike.  Some now have a long way to fall, some have yet further to climb, and others have just found their feet firmly beneath them.  In terms of character development, this was quite a crescendo, and more than satisfying. This episode […]

Doctor Who: The Name of The Doctor

Do you hear the whisper men?  The whisper men are near. If you hear the whisper men, then turn away your ear.  Do not hear the whisper men whatever else you do, for once you’ve heard the whisper men, they’ll stop and look at you.

Oldie but a Goodie: Regarding Henry

I’ve got a quick one for you, so don’t expect much in the way of me waxing philosophic about this movie.  It’s a little older, pretty good, and is of some relevance. Regarding Henry 1991 – written by J.J. Abrams.  yes, it’s good to remember that J.J. Abrams has indeed written a pretty good movie.  This in no […]

How do you make Cybermen threatening, frightening, and just cool?  You let Neil Gaiman write them.

Oldie but a goodie: What’s Up Doc?

What’s Up, Doc?  How should I begin with this movie?  I suppose I should start at the beginning, or near the beginning.

Game of Thrones: The Climb

Game of Thrones: The Climb

Have you ever watched someone put together a big puzzle? Sometimes it’s just pieces that look like part of a tree fitting in next to other pieces that might be bushes.  Soon enough add one more piece, and you can see a forest.  That’s what this goddamned show is.
