We don’t always write about sports, but I found this story to be a little too funny not to share.
The NBA playoffs is one of the most exciting sporting events of the year. Every year there is some quirky story that fans grab onto and make their own. Last year, Jazz C Kosta Koufos, was seen visibly saying “boom bitches” in the first round against the Denver Nuggets and he became a local internet meme.
This year, on April 10th, in the waning days of the regular season, the Chicago Bulls played the Orlando Magic. As the game ended, the sidelines reporter was conducting an interview and Jameer Nelson can be seen telling Chicago’s Derrek Rose “I’ll catch you in the second round.” You can watch the incriminating video below.
This comment fired up an Atlanta Hawk fanbase who stunned Magic nation by defeating them pretty handily in 6 games. In light of this, A spokesman for the the Hawks announced on twitter that he was going to leave two tickets for Nelson so he could catch Derrek Rose in the second round. Here is what Arthur Triche, the spokesman for the Hawks, had to say:
Things that make me happy about this job, Taking a page out of Jerry Glanville’s book, I think I’ll follow through on Jameer’s request to catch Derrick Rose in the 2nd round.
Glanville famously left tickets for Elvis to see Atlanta Falcons NFL games.
I love seeing sports stories like this. Making a little comment about seeing a friend in the second round, being a little confidant, and then the opposing team triumphing and then poking a little fun at it. And in case you were wondering, no Jameer did not use the tickets left for him by the Hawks.
