Assassination of a High School President – Trailer

I first heard about Assassination of a High School President back in 2008 after it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and I was looking forward to the expected November release, then it slipped and I’ve waited and waited and now we’re finally getting a straight to DVD release in October.

The film follows the story of Bobby Funke, a second rate high school reporter who becomes a noir style private eye in order to track down some stolen SAT papers.  The cast all look like they’re having a ball especially Bruce Willis as the school’s  principal and Mischa Barton looks fantastic playing the hottest girl in school,  when she says the line “I’m so going to corrupt you” makes me realise I would let her do anything to me.  I’m beginning to wonder what the film would have done for her career if it had found a theatrical release?

It looks like a lighter version of the movie Brick which happens to be one of my favorite movies and it’s been a little while since we’ve had a smart teen film, it’s just a shame that the film isn’t going to get the audience that it deserves because it’s going straight to DVD.

The film is being distribute by Sony Picture Classics who have a habit of mishandling promising indie films by giving them terrible release dates and no marketing budget, lets hope that Fox Searchlight pick up more films like this in future, ensuring they get the release they deserve.
