Well, he said he’d be back. Deadline are reporting that a number of studios are looking at a project this afternoon that would see Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new Terminator film directed by Justin Lin, who’s responsible for the last three Fast And Furious films. Universal, Sony, Lionsgate and CBS films are all said to be looking at the project, which will be produced by Robert Cort, who hasn’t produced anything relevant since Jumanji.

The last film in series was Terminator Salvation, released in 2009, which grossed $371 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. To be honest I didn’t think it was THAT bad. It was much better that Terminator 3 anyway. Still, it didn’t come anywhere near to the bar set by the first two films and the franchise hasn’t reached that level of popularity in a long time. There’s a lot of potential with the universe of Terminator but no one seems to have done a good job since James Cameron wiped his hands of the series to go make films about Leonard DiCaprio and blue space cats.

Arnie being back doesn’t change anything either, since he was in Terminator 3 after all. The dude’s old now, if he plays anything other than a Terminator it’s only going to confuse people and if he does play a Terminator then make up or not, it’s just going to look silly. The best method would be spoilers:the weird CGI Arnold in Terminator Salvation, but then that wouldn’t really be the big return to a blockbuster Hollywood would want. Tell you what though, I wouldn’t mind seeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the film somewhere, just to further repress the knowledge of that film The Tooth Fairy. It’s all speculation for now though. We don’t even know if it’s going to take place after the events of Salvation. I might be in it for all you know. The campaign starts here.
