Announcing The Superhero 5k
I had the distinct pleasure of running into the folks from The Superhero 5k at SLCC FanX today and I have to say that it sounds like a fabulous idea. There may already be other similar races, yes that much is true, but this is going to be the only one that coincides on a day DURING the actual Salt Lake Comic Con this September on the 6th. Considering this is the first of what I hope to be many in the line of geek-centric running events, I don’t want to miss out.
On the morning of the final day of SLCC, join a gaggle of fellow geeks as we don our best costumes for a fun 5k run/walk. Of course, you don’t have to come dressed in the garb of your favorite superhero but it sure makes it more fun! A portion of the proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project but personally, with the paltry cost of $30.00 for entry (that comes with a complimentary t-shirt) this is an event that is easy to run and is similarly easy on the pocketbook.
The race itself starts at Library Square in SLC and makes an easy loop around some of the nicer parts of downtown. Can you imagine the looks on some of the downtown residents there as they see a flight of superheroes and costumed runners passing by? As luck would have it, if you go to their booth during the FanX festivities you can register for only $20.00! You won’t find many running events that take place in the middle of a big city that cost so little, trust me. I’ve done quite a few myself.
If so inclined, head over to their booth in artist’s alley #AA1 and say hey and find out for yourself how neat this run will be. If not at the con, click me for more information.
