Abe’s Oddysee getting HD remake, planets align, world peace declared
Speaking in the latest EGM, Oddworld creator and possible god Lorne Lanning has revealed that the first game in the series, Abe’s Oddysee, will be getting a HD remake. Rather than 2D HD art, this remake will be taking the 2.5D approach. Fortunately, it sounds like Just Add Water won’t be messing around with the game itself, it’ll simply be the same game using new tech. That’s all we know for now.
No release date or platforms have been announced, but I cried man tears* when I first heard the news on Saturday. As you may already know, Oddworld to me is what Monkey Island is to Ryan Wilson, and unlike the Sonic series, I still have faith in it to deliver. While Abe’s Oddysee is still as great as it was back in the 90s, the graphics haven’t held up as well. Not the art style, that’s fine, just the limitations of the original Playstation. With its revival starting last year with the PC ports of Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Oddysee, it’s never been a better time to be an Oddworld fan. Hopefully this and the other remakes will do well enough to warrant a brand new entry in the series.
