The guys behind Academy Award winning Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run are adapting a new movie called The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. Yes, one of the characters will be voiced by Brian Blessed in all his splendid man glory.
I guess though, the big news is Hugh Grant will be the starring role in his first animated film. He’ll be joined by Martin Freeman, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Imelda Staunton and David Tennant. If you didn’t catch Wallace and Gromit you really missed out, and should see if you can get it from Netflix or something. The fact that they are filming this in stop motion animation in 3D is pretty damn cool too. Apparently in order to do stop motion claymation in 3D you have to have every angle perfectly, I can’t wait to see it when it comes out on the 30th of March 2012. This amazing studio called Aardman Animations will be taking charge for this Sony Pictures Animation film.
Here is a little synopsis for you to pour over:
Hugh Grant, starring in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they do battle with the pirate-hating Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a young Charles Darwin (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
