25 Days of Christmas (Carol): Day 6
Day 6 brings the first ever animated Christmas special produced for television, Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol. This adaptation is done in the style of a Broadway musical, with vision impaired Mister Magoo playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Even with such a nasty role, Magoo still has the undeniable charm to his performance. Though faithful to the story, this adaptation has one glaring alteration that threw me off guard: the first ghost is to visit is the Ghost of Christmas Present instead of Past. Why they switched the order is anyone’s guess, but it doesn’t deter from the enjoyment.
After the disaster of yesterday’s adaptation, this is a welcome treat. Though the songs may sometimes leave you groaning (such as Tiny Tim’s obsession with “razzleberry” dressing), its easy to see why this version is well received.
