25 Days of Christmas (Carol): Day 4
Day 4 brings us to our first television episode adaptation of A Christmas Carol, A Beavis and Butt-head Christmas (also known as Huh Huh Humbug). This is by far the loosest translation of the story I’ve seen yet. The adaptation begins in a dream, with Beavis the manager of Burgerworld and the high school prince, Mr. McVicker as his employee. Instead of allowing our “Cratchit” to have part of the day off, Beavis forces McVicker and Butthead to work late so he can play with himself on his couch (to a porno titled Ebenezer Screwed). Butt-head takes on the role of Marley, while Tom Anderson (the neighbor), Mr. Van Driessen, and Coach Buzzcut take the roles of the three ghosts, all of which interrupt Beavis from his movie to try and teach him something. Of course, since this is Beavis and Butt-head, the past consists of vegging on the couch, the present consists of a shaking and anxiety stricken look into the McVicker family, and the future consists of Beavis dying a virgin. Beavis wakes up from his sleep and learns…nothing.
If you aren’t already a fan of Beavis and Butt-head, this episode will not win you over, but if you enjoy the sheer stupidity of it all, the episode is worthy of a viewing. While you’re unlikely to see this airing on MTV again anytime soon, it can be found on Volume 3 of the Mike Judge Collection.
